Science fiction, good science fiction, is much more than just spaceships and aliens. At its core, science fiction explores how humanity is affected by technology, advances in science, and future events. It should leave the reader questioning their own place in the universe.

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”

Albert Einstein

Where is it all going? Technology has been expanding at an ever accelerating rate. As a society, we have increased our use of computers and machines more in the last ten years than the hundred years before that. Currently, computers can think faster, more accurately, and more precisely than the smartest humans. With the rise of AI, they are flexing their creativity too. Humans seem on the edge of becoming obsolete.

Questions I need answers to:

  1. Is AI really dangerous?
  2. Are humans evolving or stagnating?
  3. Doe communication technologies truly bring us together?
  4. Will robots ever have the ability to surpass humankind?
  5. What will the world look like in a hundred years?

Key Insights

I truly am concerned for our future. On one hand, technology has boosted humanity to unprecedented levels of prosperity, knowledge, and life quality. On the other hand, technology has made us lazy, reliant, and disconnected. As a parent and educator, I often think about the world my children and students will inherit. What will it look like?
