I have spent my entire life in the pursuit of knowledge. I became a science teacher because I am extremely passionate about sharing my quest for answers about the universe with my students. Now, being a science fiction author allows me to use my imagination to expand my reach beyond the classroom. I hope to inspire others to explore the world and beyond.

“I want to know God’s thoughts. The rest are mere details.”

Albert Einstein

Luckily, I love all things science. No matter the sub-discipline, I find everything in science extremely fascinating. That we as humans have amassed a vast, impressive array knowledge about the universe and everything in it amazes and humbles me. The discoveries we have made in a relatively short time is staggering. As an author, I love tapping into the knowledge I have accumulated in my lifetime to create intriguing and plausible science fiction stories.

You can see what I have done professionally on LinkedIn.

Writing books while working full-time, raising a family, getting mundane chores done, and keeping active is no easy task. It has taken me years to complete some books and months for others, as time allows. Life has a habit of getting in the way. It is a never ending balancing act. I have learned that perseverance is the key. Never stop writing, no matter what.

My Tips

Here are my secrets:

  1. I get up every morning, make coffee, and write before the day starts and life sidetracks me.
  2. I read a little before going to bed to relax and inspire me.
  3. I do not listen to naysayers, they are envious.
  4. Did I mention coffee?
  5. I truly believe persistence wins the contest, so I keep plodding away.
  6. I write what inspires me not what I think will sell.
  7. I reward myself with little accomplishments and victories, with chocolate.

Does anyone else have any secrets to writing that they would like to share?

As a former science teacher, what lessons learned from being in the classroom do you bring to your writing and your writing routine? Has a student or group of students inspired you to write a story?

Being an educator means being a life-long learner. I am always eagerly learning more all the time, about science and about human behavior. My students both frustrate me sometimes and provide me with humor and inspiration. I am thinking about writing a book based on a Starfleet Academy prep school for teenagers, kind of like a Hogwarts for space cadets.
